چکیده

Psammomatoid ossifying fibromas (POF) represent a rare and unique subtype of fibro-osseous lesions with predilection for the paranasal sinuses and orbits. They have specific histopatholgic features with tendency toward local aggressive behavior with invasion and destruction of adjacent anatomic structures. Symptoms include proptosis, facial swelling, nasal obstruction, pain, sinusitis and headaches, depending on the location of the lesion [1]. Secondary extension to the skull or cranial fossa can occur from a sinonasal origin, but a primary location within the cranium is rare [2]. We describe a case of POF involving primarily the right frontal bone of a 10 year-old boy.

Recurrent Psammomatoid Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma with Aneurysmal Bone Cyst: An Unusual Case Presentation

Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare, benign, locally aggressive entity of the extragnathic craniofacial bones with a high tendency towards recurrence. Two distinctive microscopic patterns of juvenile ossifying fibroma have been described: a trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) and a psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma (PJOF). Psammomatoid variant is predominantly a craniofac...

Giant Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma of the Posterior Mandible-A Rare Case Report

Large, atypical peripheral ossifying fibromas are known as giant peripheral ossifying fibromas.  These lesions have often been associated with heterogeneous clinical and radiographic characteristics subsequently leading to their misdiagnosis.  Biopsies have been the gold standard for the diagnosis of such lesions.  This study reports on an acute presentation of giant peripheral ossifying fibrom...

An aggressive psammomatoid ossifying fibroma of the sinonasal tract: report of a case.

Aggressive psammomatoid ossifying fibromas (APOFs) represent a subgroup of related fibro-osseous lesions that appears to be unique to the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and orbit. These rare lesions are characterized by distinctive histomorphologic features and a tendency to affect younger patients. Histologically they are benign, but clinically they are locally aggressive. We report the case...

Ossifying Fibromyxoid Tumor of the Posterior Maxilla: A Rare Case Report and Literature Review

Ossifying fibromyxoid tumor (OFMT) is a rare soft tissue tumor of unknown histogenesis. OFMT is a recently described, mesenchymal neoplasm originally defined as a borderline or low-grade malignant lesion. It consists of chains and trabeculae of ovoid cells swimming in a fibromyxoid stroma [1,2]. OFMT combines the clinical course of both peripheral and central ossifying fibromas. Like POF, it is...

A large psammomatoid ossifying fibroma with proptosis: A case report

The psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (POF) is a rare and benign fibro-osseous lesion predominantly affecting the paranasal sinuses and orbits of children and young adults. The diagnosis and management of the lesion remains challenging. The present study reported a rare case of a large POF in a 39-year-old male patient. The patient had a 30 year history of a slowly growing tumor and this had resul...
